Wood or Concrete?
Did you know that building sectors accounts for about 40% of Carbon Dioxide in Europe? Manufacture, transport and installation of materials like steel and concrete require a large quantity of energy, despite representing a minimal part of the ultimate cost in the building.
Wood on other hand doesn’t require extensive tools in order to be produced as a construction material. Back then wood was the most reliable building material available – some houses built over 800 years ago are still standing today.
Given the threats of global climate change, sustainable construction is the way to go forward for a healthier world.
Meerkerk uses wood that we are choosing and importing ourselves from fair and respectful producers. We use energy efficient double glass and doors and solar energy for electricity and heating of water in house.
